If you're watching the NFL season, you're probably noticing it in more and more places.
Some players just have bigger helmets than others.
Those aren't actually different helmets, though.
Instead, those are covers on helmets, and they're for good reason.
One player with that look: Buccaneers offensive lineman Luke Goedeke, who wears No. 67.
Why is Buccaneers' 67 Luke Goedeke wearing a different helmet?
Goedeke isn't actually wearing a different helmet. He's wearing a Guardian cap.
It's a soft-shell cover that goes over the standard helmet. It's meant to reduce concussions and head injuries.
Guardian Caps were first allowed to be worn on NFL practice fields in 2020.
The first time players could wear Guardian Caps in games was 2024.
Goedeke missed four games with a concussion during the 2024 season. He's trying to avoid having that happen to him again.
