Why B.J. Edwards isn't playing tonight for SMU in March Madness with injury news

The SMU Mustangs are getting their NCAA Tournament underway on Wednesday night in Dayton. They're taking on Miami (Ohio) in the First Four.

The winner will be an 11-seed in the Round of 64 and take on the Tennessee Volunteers. To get there, SMU will have to do it without B.J. Edwards.

Edwards is a talented guard who began his college career at Tennessee before coming to shine at SMU.

He's a two-time All-ACC Defense selection, and his game is incredibly well-rounded.

This season, Edwards is averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game while also shooting 37.2% from 3-point range.

His absence is a major one for SMU.

Why isn't B.J. Edwards playing tonight?

Edwards is out to open March Madness due to an ankle injury.

He's previously been spotted wearing a boot on the right ankle, and he hasn't played since Feb. 25.

SMU has played five games since Edwards got injured and lost four of them.

Clearly, he's a key cog, but they'll have to figure out how to get past Miami (Ohio) without him if they want their season to continue.
