Tuesday's game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream was interrupted late in the fourth quarter for the same reason. The referees did not stop play immediately, though, and only removed the object during a dead-ball situation.
These incidents are the latest to rock the WNBA over the past week. On Sunday, the league became a punching bag for critics after Phoenix Mercury star Kahleah Copper left the game to fix her torn-off wig. Copper did not signal to her bench; instead, she sprinted to the locker room to address the malfunction.
