Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has slammed Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal following his on-field confrontation with Lamine Yamal in Sunday’s El Clasico.

The 262nd El Clasico, played at Santiago Bernabeu, saw players between the two teams engage in a war of words and come to blows after the final whistle. Tensions were bound to run high after Yamal ignited pre-Clásico controversy by accusing Real Madrid of stealing and complaining during an appearance on a Kings League program.

Before kickoff, Carvajal reportedly promised to confront Yamal for his remarks about Los Blancos, and he delivered on his promise after the final whistle. The Spanish right-back approached Yamal and made a hand gesture implying that Yamal ‘talks too much.’ The Barcelona winger didn’t also hold back as he also gestured to Carvajal. Eduardo Camavinga prevented the issue from escalating between the pair as he ushered Yamal away.

Speaking about the row between the pair on La Posesion, Gaspart criticized Caravajal’s reaction, calling him ‘finished,’ and insisted that he shouldn't have confronted Yamal since his comments weren’t directed at him.

“Who the hell is Carvajal? He was a great player, but he’s finished now. Why should Lamine call him if his statements weren’t even directed at him?” the ex-Barcelona president said.

Apart from Carvajal, Yamal also had a heated moment with Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jr. The El Clasico feud was taken to social media, with reports claiming that Yamal has unfollowed Carvajal on Instagram.

Barcelona captain Frenkie De Jong berates Real Madrid’s Carvajal for confronting Yamal after Sunday’s El Clasico

Frenkie de Jong also leapt to Yamal’s defense after he was targeted by Real Madrid players after the match. The Dutch midfielder said Los Blancos’ players handled the situation poorly. He also opined that Carvajal should have addressed Yamal privately, alluding to their shared nationality.

De Jong told the media:

"I didn't see what happened. I was on the bench and saw a lot of people [rush over]. Then the referee blew his whistle, Real Madrid players went after Lamine. It's a bit exaggerated. You'd have to ask them. "In the first half, we weren't sharp with the ball. Madrid hurt with their players up front. In the second half, we lacked the ability to create danger and clear chances. If Carvajal wanted to speak with Lamine, call him or text him. You're [Spain] team-mates, you know each other. Why do you have to make a scene on the pitch?"

With the win, Real Madrid extended their lead of the table, while Barcelona trail them by five points in second position.
