Matteo Manassero of Italy delivered a 6-under 64 on Saturday at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, matching New Zealand’s Ryan Fox for the lowest round of the day. The two now share the 54-hole lead at 14-under par heading into the final round.

As Manassero positions himself for a potential breakthrough on the PGA Tour, here is a closer look at his background and rise in professional golf. In 2009, at the age of 16, Manassero became the youngest-ever winner of the British Amateur Championship, defeating England's Sam Hutsby in the final.

This victory earned him a spot in the 2009 Open Championship, where he made the cut and received the Silver Medal as the leading amateur, finishing tied for 13th place. He topped the World Amateur Golf Rankings on December 30, 2009, holding the position for 18 weeks before turning professional.

On April 9, 2010, Matteo Manassero became the youngest player to make the cut at the Masters Tournament at 16 years, 11 months, and 22 days old. He turned professional shortly after the Masters and made his debut at the BMW Italian Open.

In October 2010, Matteo Manassero won the Castelló Masters Costa Azahar in Valencia, Spain, at 17 years and 188 days, becoming the youngest winner in European Tour history. He secured his second European Tour victory at the Maybank Malaysian Open in April 2011, just before his 18th birthday. In 2012, he won the Barclays Singapore Open, becoming the first teenager to win three times on the European Tour.

His most notable victory came in 2013 at the BMW PGA Championship, where he triumphed in a playoff, becoming the youngest winner of the tournament. However, Matteo Manassero's career faced challenges in the years that followed. He lost his European Tour card in 2018 and spent time on the Alps Tour.

In 2020, Matteo Manssero won the Toscana Open on the Alps Tour, marking his first professional victory in seven years. He secured two victories on the Challenge Tour in 2023, finishing ninth in the rankings and earning his return to the European Tour in 2024. In March 2024, he won the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa, ending an 11-year winless streak on the European Tour. This victory marked his fifth career European Tour title.

Manassero has represented Italy in two Olympic Games, the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
