Who is Canada's backup goalie? Pulling Jordan Binnington enters conversation in Olympic semifinal

1 hour ago 3

There might be no tomorrow for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.

That means Jordan Binnington's leash might be getting very short as the Canadian goalie.

Finland scored the opening goal in the first period, then made it 2-0 early in the second on a shorthanded goal.

Would other goalies have made the saves? Not necessarily.

But after concerns earlier in the tournament about Binnington, this is starting to get quite dicey.

Obviously, Canada needs to score itself. But it also has to keep Finland from scoring again.

Who is Canada's backup goalie?

Canada's backup is Logan Thompson from the Washington Capitals.

The Canadians also have Darcy Kuemper on the roster, but he hasn't been dressing.

If Binnington were to be pulled, Thompson would go into the game.

Binnington has been the big-game guy for Canada in the recent past, including at the 4 Nations Faceoff a year ago.

If he doesn't stand on his head the rest of the way against Finland, though, Canada might not have a chance to play for the gold medal at all.
