Lakers' 7-foot G League center leaves contract to sign in Phillipines

Some Los Angeles Lakers fans wanted Kylor Kelley to get a chance at the NBA level.

Kelley isn't even sticking around in the G League, though.

The 7-footer was let out of his contract with the South Bay Lakers on Friday. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Kelley is signing a contract to play in the Philippines.

Kelley is a 28-year old, 7-foot tall center.

He has never actually played for the Lakers at the NBA level.

Last season, Kelley suited up in his only 11 NBA games of his career -- eight with the Mavericks, and three with the Pelicans.

This season, Kelley has played 19 games for the South Bay Lakers. He has shot 73.3% from the floor while averaging 8.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.4 blocks per game.

Kelley has only played one listed international game, for Trieste in Italy in the 2024-25 season.

He was a college star at Oregon State, where he twice made the Pac-12 All-Defense team.

In his two years with the Beavers, Kelley averaged an absurd 3.4 blocks per game.

At this point, his departure suggests Kelley may not see a path back to the NBA for himself.

Bol Bol recently signed a contract in the Philippines, too, so that league is adding some NBA-level talent.

Kelley will try to make the most of his new opportunity.
