White Sox snag 2.83 ERA, 6-foot-8 lefty pitcher from Mets

The New York Mets lost some height this week.

Their loss was the Chicago White Sox gain.

The White Sox announced Friday that they have claimed 6-foot-8 left-handed pitcher Bryan Hudson off waivers from the Mets.

Hudson is a 28-year old originally from Illinois who was a third-round pick of the Cubs in the 2015 MLB Draft.

He was available now because the Mets designated him for assignment earlier in the week.

Hudson threw in four games for the Mets this spring, going 3.1 innings and allowing six runs, so he didn't help his own cause.

He has pitched in MLB for the Dodgers, Brewers and White Sox, and he has a 2.83 ERA at the major league level.

His best season was 2024 with the Brewers, when Hudson threw in 43 games and had a 1.73 ERA.

In 2025, he had a 4.35 ERA in 12 games with the Brewers, then a 5.79 ERA in four outings with the White Sox.

Now, Hudson is back in Chicago.

He has some upside, it seems, at his size and with his career 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings at the major league level.

The White Sox certainly weren't going to turn down this chance to bring back a familiar, huge, left-handed arm for their bullpen.

The Mets clearly didn't get an encouraging outcome from the spring outings for Hudson, and so they move on.
