The Chicago White Sox have never begun a season better than this.
They were on the road for Opening Day on Thursday, which meant they got to bat first.
The task seemed difficult. On the mound was Milwaukee Brewers flamethrowing ace Jacob Misiorowski.
Misiorowski would eventually record strikeouts for all three outs in the first inning. Not before damage was done, though.
Chase Meidroth was the leadoff hitter. And he yanked a pitch out of the yard to left field.

Yep, a leadoff home run in the top of the first inning on Opening Day. It doesn't get better than that.
In fact, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports it was the first leadoff home run on Opening Day in franchise history.
Per Elias, Chase Meidroth's home run was the first leadoff Opening Day home run in franchise history.
— Scott Merkin (@scottmerkin) March 26, 2026Meidroth was not a likely candidate here. He entered the game with just 450 career MLB at bats, which included just five home runs.
He's more of a contact, speed and defense guy.
But this time around, Meidroth seized the stage. Just 24 years old, he's potentially got a long baseball future ahead of him.
It'll be tough to top what he did Thursday, though. He started his season with a home run. He started his entire team's season with a homer.
That's pretty darn cool.
