White Sox part ways with former Braves first-round pick, 4.85 ERA Red Sox reliever

The Chicago White Sox made a notable roster move involving the bullpen on Thursday. 

According to an announcement made by the AL Central club, right-hander Tyler Davis had his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte.

Veteran Lucas Sims, who was a first-round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves in 2012, was designated for assignment. 

Sims struggled on the mound after signing a minor league deal with the White Sox during the offseason. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits and walked seven of the 46 batters he faced.

During his seven seasons from 2018-24 with the Cincinnati Reds, Sims became a reliable option in middle relief and enjoyed a breakout year in 2021, striking out 76 batters in 47 innings. 

Sims' Reds tenure came to a close at the deadline in 2024, when the Boston Red Sox acquired the now 31-year-old in a trade. 

Chicago has five days to trade Sims or place him on waivers. They could find a suitable trade partner if a club is in dire need of an extra arm.
