The Chicago White Sox recently traded away one of their best assets, Luis Robert Jr. He patrolled center field for the club and was a staple not just in the field but with the bat in his hands as well.
One of the players the White Sox got in return for Robert was Lusiangel Acuna, the younger brother of Ronald Acuna Jr. He is expected to take over for Robert and play center field.
Still needing a corner outfielder, Chicago came to terms with outfielder Austin Hays. The two sides agreed on a one-year, $6 million contract with mutual options for the 2027 season, allowing this outfield group to be a bit clearer now.

White Sox could get outfield relief from one of its top prospects
It looks like the White Sox could employ an outfield that consists of Andrew Benintendi in left field, Austin Hays in right, and Luisangel Acuña in center.
However, to use Acuna to his true potential, locking him in center field could hamper his game. He has the ability to play second, third, and shortstop as well.
So, if the White Sox want to use their utility player in that sense, they do have an exciting outfield prospect who could be ready for big-league action on a day-to-day basis, via the crew over at MLB.com.
"Montgomery could shore up what might be MLB's worst outfield contingent. A switch-hitting right-fielder with well-above average raw power and arm strength, he slashed .270/.360/.444 with 12 homers and 14 steals in 121 games while advancing from Single-A to Double-A in his pro debut."
While it is mentioned he is a right fielder, he could handle center field as well. And adding a switch-hitter to the lineup never hurts.
Montgomery finished the 2025 season as the fifth-best prospect for the South Siders. Despite his limited experience in pro ball, if he can have a fantastic spring, he could see himself making the Opening Day roster.
