Browns' wild NFL honors stat makes losing ways all the more confusing

1 hour ago 3

The Cleveland Browns, over the last three seasons, have gone 11-6, 3-14, and this season, 5-12. It's not been a good time for the Browns, even including their lone playoff game, which was a 45-14 blowout loss at the hands of the Houston Texans.

But, despite the last three years being far from ideal, the Browns have had some very strong representation at the NFL honors. This year, Myles Garrett won the Defensive Player of the Year, and Carson Schwesinger won the Defensive Rookie of the Year.

And as Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team shared, the Browns' history in the NFL honors the last three seasons, making their losing ways the last three years all the more confusing.

Browns' NFL Honors representation makes losing way more confusing

"The Browns over the last three years have had: Defensive Player of the Year (twice), Defensive Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year, and Comeback Player of the Year," Meirov posted on Twitter/x.

The two Defensive Player of the Year awards were won by Garrett, who secured it this season with 23 sacks, breaking the NFL record.

He was also the Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 when he had 14 sacks, 42 tackles, 30 QB hits, four forced fumbles, and some remarkable pass-rushing statistics.

Their Coach of the Year was Kevin Stefanski, who's now fired, for his 2023 season leading the Browns to an 11-6 record, having a rotation of QBs that included Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson, P.J. Walker, and Dorian Thompson Robinson.

The Assistant Coach of the Year also came during the 2023 season, when Jim Schwartz, the now resigned defensive coordinator, won the award thanks to his defense being the best in yards allowed and the 13th best in points allowed.

Lastly, the Comeback Player of the Year was Flacco, who, after not playing well or much the previous few years, came in and went 4-1 as the Browns starter to help them make the playoffs.

While these players and coaches earned these awards fair and square, the current status of the team, being a consistent top-10 drafting team, despite having six representatives at the NFL honors in the last three years, is confusing.

Typically, if there's a lot of personnel getting league-wide recognition, things are going a lot better than they've been for the Browns.

But the Browns haven't been able to put it all together for more than one year. Their quarterback issue has held the offense back in a major way.

Cleveland needs to figure things out on offense, and hopefully, Todd Monken does just that. Otherwise, they'll continue to rack up trophies at the NFL Honors without any postseason success to show for it.
