Which San Diego Padre was named an MLB All-Star finalist?

They may again be fighting with their rivals in Los Angeles for command of the National League West, but other than that, there's really nothing to complain about for the San Diego Padres.

And with the All-Star break approaching, now is a perfect time for the team to reflect to see what they need to do to continue trending towards a path that equals a strong finish to the season as well as a playoff run.

Or, if you're Padres third baseman Manny Machado, it may be time for you to prep yourself for your seventh career All-Star Game, and third with San Diego.

After New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani were granted automatic starting spots for the Game due to being the highest vote-getters in each league, the finalists for the starting positions were revealed and the rivalry between the Padres and Dodgers will continue with the All-Star selections, as Machado will battle it out with Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy for the starting third baseman spot.

To some's surprise, Machado just happens to be the only Padre up for a starting spot as of now, with other stars such as Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill nowhere to be found, although there is still time for them to make it to the team.

On the flip side, the Dodgers have one player as a finalist at each position, with first baseman Freddie Freeman, second baseman Tommy Edman, shortstop Mookie Betts, Muncy, catcher Will Smith, and outfielders Teoscar Hernandez and Andy Pages all named as contenders for starting spots in Atlanta in the second week of July.
