France managed to reach the semifinals of the World Cup this past summer in Didier Deschamps' swansong, but fell short of the title as the midfield was swallowed up by title-winners Spain.

Turkiye, meanwhile, were eliminated in the group stage as they disappointed heavily at the summer tournament. Two defeats to Paraguay and Australia could not be wiped away by a dead-rubber win over hosts United States in their group stage finale.
