Former UConn star Paige Bueckers is set for her highly anticipated WNBA debut Friday night, when the Dallas Wings take on the Minnesota Lynx in their season opener.
As expected, Bueckers went No. 1 overall to the Wings, who earned the top pick at the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery. Bueckers showed just how dynamic she can be, averaging 12.5 points in two preseason contests. She also recorded six assists against the Toyota Antelopes on May 11, which was tied for team best.
Undeterred by a couple knee injuries, Bueckers capped off her collegiate career with a national title at UConn, the program's 13th all-time. During that win over South Carolina, Bueckers recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 assists.
She also racked up a number individual accolades, including the AP Player of the Year (2021), the Naismith College Player of the Year (2021), the USBWA National Player of the Year (2021), the John R. Wooden Award (2021), the Big East Player of the Year (2021, 2024, 2025), the Big East Freshman of the Year (2021) and the Big East tournament MOP (2021, 2024, 2025).
Bueckers is also a three-time All-American and the 2025 recipient of the Honda Sports Award. That award is given to the best player in women's college basketball.
Dallas, with a new coaching staff and front office, looks to get back to the postseason after missing the cut in 2024.
