As South Dakota fights for the top seed in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, it gets a rivalry matchup against North Dakota.
The Coyotes (7-2, 5-1 MVFC) are fourth place in the MVFC standings with two games remaining in the season. Up first is a road matchup against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks before hosting North Dakota State.
While Fighting Hawks (5-5, 2-4 MVFC) are the weaker team in 2024, they have dominated the head-to-head series throughout history. North Dakota has a 64-32-5 record against South Dakota. South Dakota won the last meeting in 2023.
North Dakota enters this matchup on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling to South Dakota State 38-7. South Dakota, however, shutout Indiana State 49-0 in its last game.
While the Fighting Hawks aren't playing for a playoff spot at this point, they can spoil the Coyotes' chances. If South Dakota loses, either North Dakota State or Missouri State can clinch the MVFC automatic bid, pending other outcomes. South Dakota needs to win, otherwise it cannot earn the automatic bid.
