The EFL Cup will officially get underway this week, starting with a matchup between Middlesborough and Wrexham on Friday.
Middlesborough are heading into their tenth consecutive season in the Championship, coming off of a disappointing 1-0 defeat in last year's playoff final against Hull City. Boro's squad has changed much in the offseason, losing players like Dael Fry and Hayden Hackney, but adding on Sebastian Berhalter, Max Arfsten, Kyle Joseph and more.
After three consecutive promotions, Wrexham fell just short of another last season. With the playoffs expanding by two spots, the Red Dragons will have their sights set on an eighth-place finish, but their schedule is not an easy one. New additions Ben Whiteman and Danny Imray should help the case.
