For one weekend, the NFL is taking over Spain.
After hitting Brazil, the U.K., and Germany on its 2025 international tour, the league is sending the Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins to Europe for a matchup that will expand the NFL's global footprint.
The game will mark the Commanders' first international game since 2016, when the franchise played to a tie against the Bengals. The Dolphins, however, are plenty familiar with Europe, having played five games in London and one in Munich in their history.

Who plays at Bernabeu Stadium?
Iconic Spanish soccer club Real Madrid has played at Bernabéu Stadium since it opened in 1947. Real Madrid competes in La Liga and is consistently one of the best clubs in Europe, having won the UEFA Champions League five times since 2014.
With the NFL making its first appearance in Spain, Bernabéu Stadium is trying its hand at hosting American football for the first time in decades—but not the first time ever. In 1958, the venue played host to two American football teams from Air Force bases in Europe.
It's safe to say the fanfare surrounding this matchup will be considerably different, regardless of what each team has on the line when they touch down in Madrid.

History of NFL games in Spain
The NFL has never played a game in Spain before, so the Commanders and Dolphins will achieve a first when they kick off in Week 11.
The Dolphins were revealed as the host of the NFL's first-ever Madrid game in January, months before their date and opponent were announced. The game was initially announced by the league in February 2024.
It's unclear whether the NFL plans to return to Madrid in 2026, though the league already knows it is heading to Australia for the first time.
