As the Houston Texans take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, the team will once again be without running back Joe Mixon.
The details surrounding Mixon's foot injury remain unclear. What we do know is that he's been on the shelf since the offseason and began the year on the non-football injury list, which signals his injury was related to football activities.
That forced Mixon to miss the first four games, at least, but obviously his absence has extended far beyond that timeline and there have been doubts about his ability to play at all this season since all the way back in August.
Here's the latest details on Mixon's status and a possible return timeline.
When is Joe Mixon coming back?
There is currently no timeline for Mixon's return to the field, but Texans general manager Nick Caserio recently revealed that Mixon is making progress and the team will know more in the next few weeks.
"He's making progress, so we won't put a particular timetable on it, so I think over the next few three or four weeks, we'll probably get a little more information here, kind of see how he's progressing," Caserio said.
"Once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it's going to go for the duration of the year," he added.
While that's positive, Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com reports that Mixon has a "tough, complicated situation" with his foot injury and that adds doubt about his ability to play at all in 2025.
For now, it looks like Mixon's return this season is anything but certain. If he does return at some point, we wouldn't expect it to be anytime soon and rather more toward the end of the season.
But, depending on where the Texans are record-wise when Mixon returns, it might not make sense for him to suit up the rest of the way.
