When is Germany World Cup roster announcement? Date, time of Julian Nagelsmann squad reveal

1 hour ago 5

Germany have a point to prove at the 2026 World Cup after failing to get out of the groups at the previous two tournaments.

Julian Nagelsmann has been tasked with delivering a strong performance in the United States, Canada and Mexico after the national team suffered embarrassment in Qatar and Russia.

Germany, who won a fourth World Cup in 2014, are not seen as strong favourites to go all the way in 2026, but there is no doubt that they boast a depth of talent that can challenge for the latter stages if things click.

Below are the key details on when we will find out who Nagelsmann has selected for his final roster.

When is Germany World Cup roster announcement?

The Germany roster for the World Cup is scheduled to be announced on Thursday, May 21. It had initially be slated for May 12, but Nagelsmann decided to push it back until after the end of the Bundesliga season.

As per FIFA regulations, competing teams at the World Cup must submit a provisional roster of players by May 11, and their final, whittled-down list no later than May 30.

How many players are in Germany's World Cup roster?

The final squad must contain at least 23 players and no more than 26. The only other stipulation is that at least three of these players must be goalkeepers.

Nagelsmann is not expected to make huge changes to the roster he named for the March internationals, but he has long suggested there could be one or two more surprising choices depending on player form.

Up to 27 team officials will complete the travelling party.

Can Germany replace players in their World Cup roster?

Teams are allowed to make a change to their squad due to injury or illness up to 24 hours before their first scheduled game of the tournament. Medical proof of the reason behind the withdrawal must be sent to FIFA for approval.

Germany's Group E opener against Curacao is on June 14 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, meaning any replacements would have to be arranged by June 13. After that, the squad is set for the tournament.

The one exception concerns goalkeepers: if any of the three are injured or ill and has to withdraw, they can be replaced by another keeper from the provisional list at any stage of the competition (again, subject to FIFA ratifying the change).

Where is Germany's World Cup hotel and training camp?

Germany will be based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for their World Cup campaign.

Nagelsmann, the players and the staff will stay at the Graylyn Estate Hotel, a former country estate more than a century old. It contains an on-site outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts, plus — according to its website — "unlimited complementary ice cream".

The hotel is a short distance from Wake Forest University, where Germany will hold training sessions and make use of the Sutton Sports Performance Center, which opened in 2019.
