What the LaMelo Ball trade means for Anthony Edwards' future with the Timberwolves

1 hour ago 3

When news of the Charlotte Hornets possibly entertaining trade offers for star point guard LaMelo Ball came up, some people thought it would be a drawn-out saga throughout the summer.

That is not the case because the Hornets have already made the trade to send Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three second-round picks in 2029, 2032, and 2033.

Anthony Edwards' future with the Timberwolves gets clearer with LaMelo Ball trade

After the Timberwolves made the Julius Randle trade, it looked like they were going to keep retooling around Edwards. However, there were some murmurs of Edwards himself getting frustrated with the Timberwolves.

Like any good organization, the Timberwolves did quick work to satisfy their superstar player. Now, they finally gave him the backcourt partner he has needed for the longest time.

The Timberwolves have been a stellar team for the past few years, but they have always lacked quality in the point guard position. Mike Conley Jr. is a tremendous player, but his age has limited him.

Now that Ball is on the Timberwolves, he and Edwards form one of the best backcourts in the league. They will have a supercharged offense under head coach Chris Finch, which is a promising sign for Edwards' future with Minnesota.

The Timberwolves will probably now look for wing depth, as they lost both Randle and Reid. Jaden McDaniels can play the power forward position, but he can also swap over to small forward depending on what the Timberwolves get further into the offseason.

Since the Timberwolves answered Edwards' problems with the team almost immediately, this will mean a great deal for his long-term future. He will be satisfied that his demands were met, which signals an even stronger commitment to the long-term future.
