Rihanna Closes Out Met Gala in Dress With Over 115,000 Jewels
Rihanna has a special way of making everyone in her orbit shine bright like a diamond.
And during the 2026 Met Gala on May 4, the “Umbrella” singer sprinkled some of that fairy dust onto Today’s Sheinelle Jones, who was interviewing celebrities on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
“You deserve to be poured into,” Rihanna told Sheinelle while holding her hand, as seen in a clip shared by Today. “And you’re beautiful, you’re a Black journalist. And I respect you. I love you for this.”
But the compliments didn’t end there. As the 38-year-old continued her way up the museum steps, she added, “By the way your outfit is f--king fire.”
After all, not only did Sheinelle’s custom Lafayette 148 gown—designed by Emily Smith—fit her like a glove, but the sparkling, jeweled fabric caused her to literally shine bright like a diamond.
Following the heartfelt interaction, Sheinelle shared a snap with Rihanna which saw the pair smiling and holding each other close across the steps’ barriers.
“When you try to celebrate her,” the morning show anchor captioned the post, “and she sends love right back your way.”
Of course, for her part, Rihanna’s own look could also be described as “f--king fire.” Could you expect anything less from the Met Gala queen?

This year, Rihanna brought to life her interpretation of the “Costume Art” theme with a Maison Margiela gown featuring over 115,000 crystal beads and antique jewels. The jeweled gown featured a sculptured structure, which had been made by hand, that wrapped around her head and body like a cape. According to Vogue, the ensemble took over 1,380 hours to make.
Meanwhile, Rihanna’s partner A$AP Rocky—with whom she shares son RZA, 3, son Riot, 2, and daughter Rocki, 7 months—also arrived in style to the Met Gala, of which he was co-chair last year.
