Singer-songwriter Billie Eilish accepted the Music Innovator Award at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. During her acceptance speech, Eilish called out billionaires in the audience as she reflected on the state of the world.
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark, and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever—especially in our country. I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it,” Eilish said. Her words reportedly drew a mix of quiet laughter and applause from the crowd, which included billionaire Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, along with celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, George Lucas, Chris Rock, etc. According to People magazine’s October 30, 2025, report, an eyewitness noted that Zuckerberg did not clap when Eilish made her remarks.
Billie Eilish, who had a net worth of $50 million (as per Celebrity Net Worth), didn’t stop there. Directly addressing the audience again, she acknowledged the wealth disparity in the room. Expressing her frustration in her signature candid tone, she said:
“Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.”Earlier in the evening, Stephen Colbert, who had introduced Eilish on stage, praised her commitment to philanthropy and revealed that she had made a major charitable contribution.
He then revealed to the audience that Eilish would be donating proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour to support various organizations, projects, and voices.
“Billie Eilish will be donating proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour to support organizations, projects and voices dedicated to food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution and combating the climate crisis. That donation, ladies and gentlemen, will be $11.5 million…Billie, on behalf of humans everywhere, thank you” Colbert said.As per the aforementioned People Magazine report, Billie Eilish featured a private school chic look at the event. She wore a navy blazer with a skirt, a grey sweater. She also wore brown Oxford shoes with tall grey socks.
The report further detailed that despite the slight tension in the room amid her speech, the Bad Guy singer seemingly had a good time at the event, which she attended with her mother.

Speaking to the outlet, Eilish explained that she and her brother, producer Finneas, struggled with the track for nearly a year.
She said the song’s upbeat tone felt unusual compared to her typically darker sound, and it took months of rewriting to make it feel right. The pair spent 11 months “retooling the chorus and struggling to find a way” to add the line ‘I’ll love you till the day that I die’ in a way that “didn’t feel trite.”
Eilish admitted that even after completing the song, she lacked confidence in it.
“Multiple times, I was like, ‘We should cut this.’ Even when I played the whole album for the label, I was like, ‘Guys, this one is kind of stupid,’” she told WSJ.Her uncertainty, however, proved to be unfounded. Birds of a Feather went on to become one of Eilish’s biggest successes to date. The track was crowned Spotify’s most-streamed song of 2024 with over 1.77 billion streams and has since surpassed 3 billion plays on the platform.
Beyond the music, Eilish also shared how her approach to touring had evolved.
She had implemented new boundaries to protect her mental and physical health, including limiting herself to no more than three consecutive weeks on the road, taking breaks to return home between tour legs, and avoiding too many back-to-back shows.
“It takes longer, and you make less money that way, but for me, it’s magical.”Billie Eilish is currently in the final three weeks of her international Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, scheduled to end on November 23, 2025.
