Texas and Mississippi State will be fighting to keep their seasons alive in the first elimination game of the Women's College World Series Friday.
No. 2 Texas faced No. 7 Tennessee in its first matchup of the WCWS, but was unable to surpass ace pitcher Karlyn Pickens, who helped the Lady Vols secure a 6-3 win. It was a three-run homer given up by Longhorns pitcher Teagan Kavan that put Tennessee firmly in the lead.
On the other hand, it seemed like unseeded Mississippi State had run out of magic against No. 11 Texas Tech — the Bulldogs lost 8-0 in a run-rule disappointment. Mississippi State has some fight, though, as it was able to knock off major opponents like No. 14 Oregon and No. 3 Oklahoma in the regional and super regional rounds.
