Sam Darnold gets a chance at redemption in prime-time, and a win could rocket the Seattle Seahawks to the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
After throwing four interceptions in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in November but still nearly winning the game, Darnold has a chance to knock the Rams out of the NFC West lead and out of the conference's top seed on Thursday night.
It won't be easy. Even with Davante Adams battling a hamstring injury, the Rams have one of the NFL's most balanced teams and appear to have found a new gear with Blake Corum emerging as a valuable complement to Kyren Williams out of the backfield.
While the focus is so often on quarterback matchups in the NFL, the most important question on Thursday is likely whether a stellar Seahawks defense can rise up and slow down Matthew Stafford's MVP campaign. Between Stafford, a glut of weapons and perhaps the NFL's most respected play-caller in Sean McVay, the Rams look every bit like Super Bowl contenders but may have to start the playoffs on the road if they can't bury the Seahawks in the NFC West standings on "Thursday Night Football."
