College football fans might experience some déjà vu this weekend when a North Carolina-TCU matchup kicks off the season. The only difference? This year's opener will take place in Dublin.
North Carolina's football program drew attention last year with former Patriots coach Bill Belichick taking over, but the NFL legend's debut campaign with the school was a flop. The Tar Heels lost this exact matchup 48-14 to open up 2025, and then went on to have a 4-8 season.
On the other side, TCU had a strong season which ended with a 9-4 record and a No. 25 ranking in the final AP poll. Though the Horned Frogs didn't make the College Football Playoff, they continued on to the Alamo Bowl, where they pulled off a thrilling overtime victory against No. 16-ranked USC.
