With three games remaining in the 2026 NBA season, both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks are in the playoff picture.
Cleveland has already clinched a playoff berth for the fourth season in a row. Atlanta, on the other hand, can still fall to the Play-In Tournament if they were to lose all three of their remaining games. As of now, the Hawks are the No. 5 seed in a crowded Eastern Conference.
Cavalier stars Donovan Mitchell and James Harden were both sidelined from Monday's victory against the Memphis Grizzlies. Mitchell was out with a cited right ankle sprain, while Harden was absent due to personal reasons.
These final three games for the Hawks will be crucial in determining whether the team can outright clinch a playoff berth or be present in the Play-In tournament for the fifth straight season. Since Trae Young's departure to the Washington Wizards, Nickeil Alexander-Walker has stepped up massively for Atlanta, averaging 20.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 45.7% from the field and 39.9% from 3P. Jalen Johnson has also had a stellar 2025-2026 campaign and should be a cornerstone for Atlanta's future, averaging 22.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 8.0 assists, on 49.2% shooting from the field and 35.4% from beyond the arc.
