Carlos Alcaraz's father, Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, recently issued a rather nonchalant take in the wake of an explosive interview given by his son's ex-coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. In the interview, Ferrero had addressed his and Alcaraz's recent split, which sent shockwaves through the tennis world. The World No. 1's father's take though, left tennis fans divided.
According to Ferrero, there were disagreements when it came to negotiating a new contract for him to continue as the six-time Major champion's coach. The 45-year-old claimed in his interview with Marca that his camp and that of Alcaraz didn't sit down to resolve the disagreements and this led to the split.
More recently, Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, the father of the reigning No. 1 who is known to exert considerable authority and influence within his son's team, told EFE:
"Everyone is free to give their opinion based on what they know."Carlos Alcaraz's father's words rubbed some tennis fans on X (formerly Twitter) the wrong way, as they held him accountable for the departure of Juan Carlos Ferrero from his son's coaching setup.
"Uyyyyy, what a bad vibe this guy has," one fan wrote. "This is hitting new lows daily I swear....," commented another. ""You can think what you want” if dadcaraz is gonna keep making most important decisions of his son’s career he should invest in some media training too bc this type of an answer is what spurs more rumours. if you give people permission to think what they want, they would," another fan chimed in. "Yeah it’s because of him…," added one.On the other hand, some fans liked how Alcaraz's father dealt with the controversial situation.
"It's quite a good answer to MARCA. lol. There needs no particular reason to change your coach. No one is having a grudge here," one wrote. "Just so people are aware. Thanks to Ferrero’s comments, Carlos Alcaraz and his family were doorstopped by journalists and Carlos Snrs comment was an effort to get journalists to leave and stop hounding them," weighed in another fan.Carlos Alcaraz's childhood mentor expects World No. 1 to hire new coach instead of continuing with Samuel Lopez as his head coach
Samuel Lopez (left) and Carlos Alcaraz (right) (Source: Getty)Samuel Lopez, the Spanish coach who joined Alcaraz's team as an assistant to Ferrero, has temporarily taken over as the World No. 1's head coach. However, according to Carlos Santos, one of Alcaraz's childhood mentors, this arrangement will change sooner or later. Speaking to Eurosport Spain, Santos said:
"There's going to be another coach. I couldn't tell you who, but it has to be someone willing to be in Murcia, to live here in Murcia. And someone who will make everything very comfortable and easy for Carlitos."Alcaraz has already started training under Lopez's supervision for the 2026 Australian Open, with the Melbourne Major being the only Grand Slam still missing from the Spaniard's 24 career title triumphs.
