Jalen Brunson had already survived a painful night when the final buzzer sounded in San Antonio. What happened next explained why the New York Knicks star looked so angry even after leading his team to a 105-95 Game 1 win over the Spurs.
The television broadcast made it seem as if Brunson was marching toward referee Scott Foster to complain about the officiating. The truth was far different. Brunson was trying to report two courtside fans who had spent the closing moments of the game directing vulgar remarks at him from their seats.
“NBA is looking into two courtside fans who allegedly directed vulgar profane 'flopping' remarks towards Knicks star Jalen Brunson late in Game 1 of Finals,” shares an NBA insider on X, citing sources. “Brunson met with official Scott Foster after the game to address the fans’ behavior to which the remarks continued.”

— Dan Patrick Show (@dpshow) June 4, 2026The confrontation did not come out of nowhere. It grew from a night that kept pushing Brunson closer to his limit. Early in the game, a knee collision briefly sent him to the locker room and raised concerns about his availability. He returned, but the physical punishment continued.
The frustration increased in the second quarter when Spurs center Luke Kornet came down on Brunson's left ankle after a drive. No foul was called, and Brunson immediately voiced his displeasure toward Foster during the next timeout. By then, irritation with the officiating had already become part of the story.
That tension followed him into the final minutes. As the Knicks completed their comeback from a 14-point deficit, the courtside taunts continued. Brunson approached Foster after the game to address the behavior, but the comments reportedly continued.
One remark even crossed into personal territory by targeting his wife. Teammate Jose Alvarado eventually stepped in and guided Brunson away before the situation could grow worse.
What makes the scene stand out is that Brunson never lets the chaos affect the result. After the injuries, the missed calls and the heckling, he scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and carried New York to a road victory. The anger seen on camera was real, but so was the performance that put the Knicks three wins closer to a championship.
