Late in the Las Vegas Aces' Game 2 loss to the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, A'ja Wilson and Sophie Cunningham got in a tangle of destiny.

Few could have predicted that Wilson would give the game its defining image when referees blew the play dead for a foul with four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The four-time WNBA MVP nearly went into the stands to confront a fan who had stood up and pointed at her, an incident that she decried as "unacceptable" when she met with reporters post-game.

But a staff member on Wednesday's production of "The Pat McAfee Show" has claimed that the fan's words to Wilson were not quite so bad as many might have imagined in the aftermath of the Fever's 99-89 victory.

In a segment of his show that dripped with sarcasm, McAfee explained -- via his staffer -- that the Fever fan stood up and shouted "that foul is on you" to Wilson, after she got tangled up with Cunningham while trying to set a screen.

It's worth noting that the referees did not see it that way. After a lengthy review to sort out the entire sequence, Cunningham was called for a foul on Wilson, and the Aces were awarded two free throws.

And it's further worth noting that Wilson's main problem with the entire sequence was that the fan stepped toward her while pointing his index finger at her, in an obviously combative gesture.

To Wilson, it wasn't just what the fan said. It was the way in which he expressed it, which was wholly unnecessary.

"If I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said. I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone. That is unacceptable," Wilson said Tuesday night. "You don’t step towards me and point at me."

Nevertheless, this incident adds even more intrigue -- if not tension -- to Game 3 in Las Vegas on Thursday night, when one of the Aces or the Fever will move onto the semifinals.
