An NBA representative has cleared up that the league never cleared Terry Rozier of any wrongdoing when they first investigated his betting activity during his time with the Charlotte Hornets. Following the Miami Heat star’s arrest on Oct. 23, his lawyer had stated that the NBA cleared Rozier in its investigation.

Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of “Pablo Torre Finds Out,” an NBA representative disputed this claim, saying that the league never closed its investigation:

“Terry’s investigation was never closed, so he was not cleared of anything,” the NBA representative told Pablo Torre. “Us not being able to find something is not the same as being cleared. It is true we did not find a violation of our rules, but we did not close our investigation.”

In light of this new information, fans will likely be easier on the NBA. Previously, there was much speculation that the league was involved in the gambling scandal, much of it stemming from the false information that Rozier was cleared by Adam Silver and Co.

The Miami Heat guard was primed to play a significant role this season, with many expecting him to lead the team’s second unit. He has played 95 games for the team, averaging 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups will not receive their NBA salary amid FBI investigations

The situation for Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups has gone from bad to worse. According to a report from Shams Charania, both parties won't have access to their NBA paychecks while they are on leave amid the FBI’s investigation.

This is a departure from league policy. Previously, players would still receive their paychecks during absences. It was previously assumed that Rozier and Billups would still be paid. Instead, according to the NBA’s instructions, their paychecks will be placed in escrow while the investigation continues.

It is unclear whether Billups and Terry Rozier will receive their salaries if they’re found guilty. The Heat guard was set to earn $26,643,031 through the 2025-26 season, according to Spotrac.

Billups, meanwhile, had signed a two-year extension with the Portland Trail Blazers at the end of 2024-25. His new salary remains undisclosed, although fans speculate it is higher than the $4.7 million he made last season.
