It was a case of so close, yet so far for World No. 1 Jannik Sinner at the French Open 2025. He cruised to the final without dropping a set and was on the verge of a straight sets win against Carlos Alcaraz in the summit clash. While the Italian conceded the third set, he led by a break in the fourth set and had three championship points on his opponent's serve at 5-3.
However, Alcaraz showed nerves of steel as he staged a brilliant comeback to defend his title and deny Sinner his third consecutive Major title. When he arrived for his post-match conference, the Italian stated that he will recover from this tough loss with the help of his family.
"My family, the people who know me… now they are helping, you know [smiling]. It’s a giving sometimes. And sometimes you take something. Now it’s my time to take something from the close people I have. They will for sure be happy that I’ll come back home," Sinner said.Sinner also stated that despite his massive success, his family maintains a simple lifestyle. While he was happy that his mother showed up to support him for the final in Paris, his father on the other hand was working and couldn't make it. He surmised that his father caught the match on television if he got done with work.
"With my family, with everyone. We are just a very simple family. My dad wasn’t here because he was working today. Nothing of our success changes in the family. It was nice to see my mom here. I guess my dad was watching on tv if he finished work," he added.A week isn't enough to get over such a heartbreaking loss but that's all the time Sinner has before he returns to action for the grass swing. He's set to contest one warm-up tournament in the lead-up to Wimbledon.
Jannik Sinner will commence his grass season in Halle

Jannik Sinner will begin his grass swing at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, where he's the defending champion. The tournament will be held from June 16-22. He beat Hubert Hurkacz in last year's final to capture his first career title on grass.
Sinner will then head to the All England Club for Wimbledon. Since losing in the first round on his debut in 2021, he has significantly improved his record at the grass court Major.
The Italian bowed out in the quarterfinals in 2022 and registered his best result with a semifinal showing in 2023. He was knocked out by Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals last year. A title at Wimbledon would certainly soothe the wounds inflicted by the French Open loss.
However, Carlos Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion there. Sinner found out the hard way that dethroning him isn't easy. He will still be eager to one-up the Spaniard, who has consistently been a thorn in his side since last year, having won five matches on the trot against him.
