To compile the list, which recognizes 750 of the most environmentally conscious and sustainable companies across 26 countries, Newsweek and its partners evaluated over 8,000 publicly listed companies. As a baseline, companies had to meet the European Union’s sustainability standard, in addition to having publicly available sustainability disclosures and over 1,000 employees. Each company was scored using over 25 parameters based on greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and their sustainability data disclosure and commitments.
