With a little bit of luck, the Atlanta Falcons could have made the playoffs last year.
In week 16 of the 2024 season, coach Raheem Morris’ squad sat at 8-7.
At the time, their NFC South rivals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were also 8-7 and tied for first place.
Unfortunately, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and company lost their final two games to the playoff-bound Washington Commanders and lowly Carolina Panthers.
To add insult to injury, both losses were by six points.
“Losing sucks, not making the playoffs sucks,” defensive lineman Zach Harrison said after the season-ending loss at home. “All that we can control is what we can control. We need to attack the offseason and hopefully get back next year with some different kind of focus and different kind of approach to try to get over that hump next year and reach the potential that this team has.”
Five months removed from that devastating defeat, the Falcons have attacked the offseason as Harrison suggested.
They signed projected starters Leonard Floyd, Morgan Fox and Divine Deablo; then, on draft day, they selected linebackers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. to shore up their defense.
And, now that the NFL has released their 2025 schedule, we know the route they’ll have to take in order to make their first postseason appearance since January 2018.
Just a few of the most notable home games on their docket include showdowns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sept. 7), Washington Commanders (Sept. 28), Buffalo Bills (Oct. 13), Seattle Seahawks (Dec. 7) and Los Angeles Rams (Dec. 29).
Plus, on Sunday, Nov. 9, they’re heading overseas to play the Indianapolis Colts at Berlin’s Olympiastadion as part of the NFL’s International Series.
