‘Laying low’ isn't a phrase Travis Kelce recognizes. After just a few months of getting married to Taylor Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is back on the field for Coach Andy Reid. Many pundits and fans expected him to be a shell of his former self, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Patrick Mahomes' main weapon showed out during Monday practice and dispelled all allegations that he is washed.
Kelce breaks internet, dispels being washed during Chiefs practice
Travis Kelce is entering his 14th season in the NFL. This is typically where people assume his decline begins, but they seem to be forgetting he has made 12 straight Pro Bowl selections. With how his training camps with Coach Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes have been going, it also does not look like that streak will end anytime soon. Why is that the case?
Well, Alohi Gilman was assigned to defend him on routes during the Chiefs' August 18 practice. It's safe to say Kelce still has it, as he made a fool of the Chiefs safety. Fans erupted when the video hit the internet, via Mark Poulose of KCTV5.

— Mark Poulose (@MarkPoulose) August 17, 2026"Somebody gotta tell Gilman that 87s dont get tired, they get even," a fan said.
Another member of the Chiefs faithful could not help but feel pity for the safety, "I know I'm not a football player but I would've torn both ACLs trying to defend that..."
Others even anticipated Kelce could be balling out in 2026 for the Chiefs: "DAMN I haven’t seen Trav move like that in a few years."
Kelce is far from washed. The Chiefs just saw him record 851 receiving yards with 11.2 yards per reception alongside five touchdowns. He is increasingly becoming a weapon Mahomes looks for downfield, not just on play-action or short passes. The Chiefs did see some of his numbers drop due to age. Kelce was only targeted 108 times, which only got him 76 receptions. These numbers were a big dip from 2024, where he got 133 targets and 97 receptions. With this insane display of talent during training camps, there is hope that he gets at least 120 targets for the 2026 NFL season.
Mahomes and Coach Reid need the Chiefs offense to be potent, as their Super Bowl window is rapidly closing. If Kelce retains his Pro Bowl-caliber self alongside Kenneth Walker and Xavier Worthy, they do have a chance just to outgun other teams en route to a championship.
