WATCH: Caitlin Clark buries Angel Reese with cold-blooded step-back 3 in Fever-Dream thriller

1 hour ago 3

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have shared the court enough times to create a long list of memorable moments. Clark added another one Sunday night. The Indiana Fever star produced one of the game’s most viral highlights during a 95-91 overtime victory over Reese and the Atlanta Dream at State Farm Arena. After forcing a defensive switch, Clark found herself isolated against Reese well beyond the 3-point line.

The result was vintage Clark. Clark crossed over, created separation with a sharp step-back and buried a 24-foot jumper over Reese’s outstretched arm. The basket extended Indiana’s lead to eight points with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter.

The highlight quickly circulated on social media, adding another clip to a rivalry that has followed Clark and Reese from college basketball to the WNBA.

Caitlin Clark capitalizes on Angel Reese matchup

The Fever created the opportunity by running Clark through a double screen as she brought the ball up the floor. Atlanta switched after the second screen, leaving Reese responsible for defending Clark on the perimeter. Clark immediately recognized the matchup.

The 6-foot guard used a crossover to get Reese moving before stepping back and creating just enough room to release the shot. Reese contested the attempt, but Clark’s range and quick release made the defensive effort irrelevant. It was Clark’s first 3-pointer of the game, but it was far from her only important contribution.

Clark finished with a game-high 26 points and nine assists in nearly 41 minutes. She also scored 12 points during the third quarter to keep Indiana within striking distance while the rest of the Fever struggled offensively.

Reese responded with a productive all-around performance for Atlanta, recording 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Allisha Gray led the Dream with 32 points, while Rhyne Howard added 17 points and five assists.

Fever stars deliver in overtime win

Indiana needed contributions throughout its lineup to survive the back-and-forth contest. Aliyah Boston turned in a dominant two-way performance with 18 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and three blocks. Kelsey Mitchell scored 20 points, giving Indiana’s star trio of Clark, Boston and Mitchell a combined 64.

Makayla Timpson provided another major boost with 20 points and seven rebounds.

The win improved the Fever to 23-12 and opened their five-game road trip on a dramatic note. Indiana also finished its regular-season series against Atlanta with a 2-2 record. The Fever will continue their trip Tuesday against the Toronto Tempo at Scotiabank Arena. Their next home game is scheduled for Aug. 28 against the Connecticut Sun.

A potential postseason rematch with Atlanta remains possible. If it happens, Clark and Reese will have another opportunity to add to a rivalry already filled with signature moments. For now, Clark owns the latest highlight.
