Ben Shelton's love for girlfriend Trinity Rodman surfaced once more recently, but this time, the couple didn't serve up their usually playful and bubbly vibes. Instead, the overall mood was one of sadness and disappointment, particularly for the USWNT soccer star, who was on the losing end of the 2025 NWSL Championship match. Subsequently, the ATP star comforted the tearful Rodman with a long embrace.

On Saturday, November 22, Rodman was brought on as a second-half substitute for Washington Spirit in the championship clash against Gotham FC. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old and her teammates, Gotham FC's Rose Lavelle struck the only goal of the contest late on, condemning Washington Spirit to a final loss for the second straight year.

It didn't take long for Trinity Rodman to break down tearfully, and she eventually made her way to boyfriend Ben Shelton, who stood waiting pitchside in San Jose, California's PayPal Park. In the touching moments that followed, the ATP No. 9 and the USWNT star embraced each other for a long time. Shelton even planted a tender kiss on Rodman's forehead. Watch it below:

Rodman's emotions may also have been heightened by her much-speculated future at Washington Spirit. With the 2025 NWSL season now done and dusted, the 23-year-old is now a free agent and rumors suggest that there are some heavyweight suitors from England and the US itself for the talented forward.

Meanwhile, the USWNT star's boyfriend also had some heartbreak of his own to deal with at the end of the 2025 tennis season.

For the most part, Ben Shelton's 2025 tennis season was a groundbreaking one, as the American clinched his maiden Masters 1000 title and also broke into the ATP singles top 10 for the first time. His performances throughout the year earned him automatic qualification for the prestigious, year-end ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.

However, Shelton's debut at the tournament turned out to be a rather underwhelming one, with the 23-year-old losing to Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the Round Robin phase. He did take a set off of Auger-Aliassime though, and is likely to learn from his first-ever experience of playing at the ATP Finals, despite the chastening nature of it.

Right now, Shelton and most other tennis players are enjoying the brief off-season. Recently, the American shared a playful social media post, suggesting that he would only focus on improving his abilities on the basketball court in the off-season before beginning preparations for the 2026 season.
