Washington's WIAA boys basketball season concluded over the weekend, and Rainier Beach of Seattle finished the job it set out to do when the nation's top-ranked Class of 2026 senior Tyran Stokes joined the squad last fall.
The Vikings entered Saturday's Class 3A championship game as the No. 21 team in the latest edition of The Sporting News High School Boys Basketball rankings, and they lived up to the billing in a 75-53 rout of the Lincoln [Tacoma] Abes. The Sea-Tac battle was over shortly after it began with Rainier Beach leading 18-3 after the first quarter and 38-8 at halftime.
Stokes was a triple threat in the win with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five assists to help Rainier Beach repeat as state champions in his only season playing for the Seattle school.
While Rainier Beach was putting the wraps on another state championship campaign, the Richland Bombers were busy putting an end to Gonzaga Prep's attempt at winning consecutive titles. The Bombers defeated the Bullpups, 63-49, in the state's top-level Class 4A championship game, putting the wraps on an undefeated 28-0 season while winning the first title in the 27-year tenure of head coach Earl Streufert.
In the Class 2A title game, the Bremerton Knights joined Rainer Beach as back-to-back champions, defeating the R.A. Long [Longview] Lumberjacks, 45-43, to add a bookend title to their 2025 championship run that culminated in a 74-53 win over the Prosser Mustangs.
The Lummi [Bellingham] Blackhawks made it a trio of WIAA squads celebrating consecutive titles, holding on for a 61-56 win over the Tulalip Heritage [Marysville] Hawks in the Class 1B finale. Last year, the Blackhawks took down the Almire-Coulee-Hartline [Coulee City] Warriors, 53-50, to claim the trophy.
The Colfax Bulldogs reclaimed the Class 2B title, adding a trophy to go along with their win in the 2024 championship game. The Bulldogs upended the Adna Pirates, 69-56, to reascend the throne after falling short in 2025.
One of the best stories of the weekend in Washington's WIAA championships, however, was the persistence shown by the Lynden Christian Lyncs over a three-year period, trying to climb the Class 1A mountain again after claiming back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. After losing to the Annie Wright [Tacoma] Gators two years ago in the semifinals (48-46) and, again, last year in the championship contest (59-46), the Lyncs finally reached the summit again, taking down the previously-undefeated Zillah Leopards, 61-42.
