The Golden State Warriors are attempting to make a major move at the trade deadline before time runs out. It was already shaping up to be an interesting deadline after Jonathan Kuminga demanded a trade due to his limited playing time this season.

“On the first day he became eligible to be moved, fifth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga demanded a trade away from the Golden State Warriors, league sources told ESPN. Kuminga could not be traded until Thursday, according to the terms of the contract he signed this summer,” ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote.

Golden State appears ready to go all-in on a superstar, but that likely means parting with a key piece. The Warriors have reportedly held discussions with teams about including Draymond Green in potential trade scenarios.

“The Golden State Warriors have involved Draymond Green in active trade conversations in advance of Thursday's deadline, league sources told ESPN, putting his 14-season run with the franchise in jeopardy. General manager Mike Dunleavy and controlling owner Joe Lacob have maintained a motivation to get a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo across the finish line and, as part of that, Green's name has been involved in the framework of available offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources said,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote.

Golden State is aggressively pursuing superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, though the Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are also making strong pushes.

“The Heat, Timberwolves and Warriors are viewed as the finalists for pulling off a Giannis Antetokounmpo deadline trade, per WindhorstESPN..Miami and Minnesota are actively calling teams trying to extract more draft capital, but might not do it until they know Giannis signs off,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.

The Warriors are making a serious effort to pair Steph Curry with Antetokounmpo—a move that would shake up the entire league. Parting ways with Green could ultimately be worth it if it means landing the two-time MVP.

Green remains an elite defender, but so is Antetokounmpo. Golden State is eager to capture another championship before Curry’s window closes, and this is exactly the type of move that could help them return to the mountaintop.
