Warriors predicted to miss out on LeBron James, sign $305M Future Hall of Famer, 6-time All-Star

The Golden State Warriors have attempted to make a major splash this offseason, but there is only so much they can do with their current roster situation. The Warriors have been fully invested in pursuing LeBron James throughout the free agency process.

Golden State began exploring the possibility early, even before the offseason officially started. Warriors superstar Stephen Curry met with James to discuss the possibility of teaming up.

“Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors are going to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency,” NBA insider Brett Siegel said.

While the Warriors have been aggressive in their pursuit of James, that pursuit may be losing momentum. The latest reports suggest Golden State is behind several other teams in the race for the superstar.

“The Warriors] are, to my knowledge, behind other teams such as a Miami, a Cleveland, a Philadelphia,” ESPN’s Shams Charania said.

If the Warriors miss out on James, the organization already appears to have a backup plan. Blue Man Hoop’s Peter O’Keefe believes Golden State could turn its attention toward DeMar DeRozan.

“The DeRozan idea is seen as a possible alternative if the Warriors miss out on LeBron James, with the franchise clearly needing more offense in the wake of Butler's torn ACL injury that will see him miss a significant part of next season,” O’Keefe wrote.

DeRozan would be an excellent alternative after missing out on James and would fit well alongside the Warriors’ current roster. While Jimmy Butler continues his recovery from his injury, DeRozan could provide a major offensive boost for Golden State.

DeRozan has earned $305 million throughout his NBA career. While he likely will not command the same type of contract he has received in the past, he could still make a major impact with the Warriors if given the opportunity.
