While Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t take his talents to the Golden State Warriors this season, the Dubs are still in a better place than they were a few weeks ago.
With multi-dimensional center Kristaps Porzingis in the fold, it’s safe to say the Warriors no longer have to worry about missing the Play-In tournament and/or postseason.
When the offseason arrives, though, the Warriors could take things up a notch by signing highly-touted free agents. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will likely be the center of attention, and according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there’s a chance the Warriors could soon strike a deal for him.
“Golden State, depending on how things go, would be one of them, depending on where their team is,” Windhorst said Wednesday.
Even when the trade season was ongoing, there was speculation that James and the Warriors could eventually join forces via an offseason signing.
In April of 2022, Stephen Curry confidently claimed that while he will always respect James, he wasn’t interested in playing alongside the four-time NBA champion at that particular time.
The Warriors hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy two months later, but things have been stale since then. Will Curry finally change his stance on teaming up with James in the Bay? Perhaps, considering the current version of the Warriors roster still needs additional adjustments for a championship to be a realistic possibility.
Even at age 41, James is a game-changing offensive mastermind who can contribute to winning at the highest level (though he has taken a step back athletically and defensively).
The 22-time All-Star averaged 21.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game with the Lakers this season, shooting 50.2% from the field and 30.6% from three. Needless to say, James will remain linked to the Warriors.
