Warriors could trade for Jazz's $195 million duo to help turn season around

After starting the season off strong, the Golden State Warriors have hit a major rough patch, which may lead them to be very busy ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

Golden State started the season 12-3, but they now hold a 19-20 record which has them sitting 12th in the Western Conference standings. There have been many reasons why the Warriors have struggled over the past few months but the main reason is their offense.

This season, the Warriors are scoring just 111.0 points per game, which ranks near the middle of the NBA. This is uncharacteristic for Golden State, who usually posts one of the best offenses in the NBA led by Stephen Curry.

Of course, Curry has been great again this season, but the supporting cast has not done much to help him. Golden State is also desperately missing Klay Thompson, who left in free agency in the offseason.

With the Warriors struggling, they must make a move ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline to become a championship contender. Two players they could target are Collin Sexton and John Collins of the Utah Jazz.

In a possible trade, Golden State could send Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga and draft capital to Utah for Sexton and Collins. With the Jazz still stuck in a rebuild, acquiring more talent and picks is exactly what they need to become competitive once again.

For the Warriors, acquiring both Sexton and Collins would greatly improve their lineup, especially offensively.

Sexton would likely slot in as the team’s new shooting guard next to Curry in the backcourt. The 26-year-old is averaging 18.2 points and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 42.0% from three this season. He is a great scorer and has also improved defensively.

Collins would become the new power forward, possibly making the Warriors either move Draymond Green to the bench or run a small lineup. The 27-year-old is having a great season, averaging 17.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Like Sexton, Collins is also a great scorer and he has shown a ton of improvement defensively this season.

By making this trade, the Warriors would fill two holes in their lineup, which may help them make another deep playoff run this season.
