Team India star Virat Kohli marked a great return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). Turning up for Delhi in their tournament opener against Andhra Pradesh in Bengaluru on Wednesday, December 24, he struck a match-winning century.

Andhra Pradesh posted a total of 298/8 batting first. In reply, Delhi comfortably got over the line in just 37.4 overs with four wickets to spare. Virat Kohli led the chase with a solid hundred. He smashed 131 runs off just 101 balls with 14 boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 129.7.

As he scored a brilliant hundred, he also matched the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's milestone. Kohli became only the second Indian after Tendulkar to cross 16000 runs in List A cricket. He now has 16130 runs in 330 innings with 58 hundreds and 84 half-centuries.

Tendulkar took 391 innings to reach the landmark. He ended with 21999 List A runs from 551 matches at an average of 45.54 with 60 hundreds and 114 half-centuries.

Moreover, Virat Kohli became only the ninth batter overall to achieve this feat. He joined Graham Gooch, Graeme Hick, Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Vivian Richards, Ricky Ponting, Gordon Greenidge, and Sanath Jayasuriya on the list.

Kohli had last played in the VHT before 2025 during the 2009-10 season. He captained Delhi against the Services in 2010 and did not feature in the tournament thereafter.

Virat Kohli continues solid form in 50-over cricket

With questions being raised about his place in the Indian team for the 2027 ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli has answered strongly with the bat with exceptional performances in recent times.

In the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa at home, he ended as the highest run-scorer. Kohli smashed 302 runs from just three games at an average of 151 and a strike rate of 117.05 with two back-to-back hundreds and an unbeaten half-century with a top score of 135.

Coming into the VHT 2025-26 on the back of a stellar South Africa series, Kohli was expected to carry his form in the domestic 50-over tournament. He lived up to the expectations and began with a stunning century, continuing his impressive run.
