“I was told I’m not a good fit here”: Caleb Williams hits back at critics in fiery take as Bears clinch playoff berth after 5 years

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams led his team to a stunning 22-16 overtime win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 on Sunday. With the win, the Bears ensured qualification for the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Williams, who had a rough rookie year after the Bears took him as the top pick in the 2024 NFL draft, hit back at some of his critics after leading Chicago to a postseason berth.

“I've said it in a couple of speeches I had before," Williams said on Tuesday. "I wasn’t the biggest, I wasn’t the strongest, I wasn’t the tallest, fastest, whatever the case may be. I get drafted here, told that I’m not a special player, told that I’m not a good fit here, told that coach (Ben Johnson) and I won’t work, told I can’t win here."

Williams led the Bears to a 5-12 record in his rookie year. However, Chicago made some big moves in the offseason to build its team around the QB, and it appears to have paid off.

This season, Williams has completed 285 of 493 passes for 3,400 yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also added 369 yards and three TDs on 71 carries.

Despite having a strong second-year at Chicago, Williams was snubbed from the Pro Bowl.

Caleb Williams' Bears (11-4) will square off against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 of the season on Sunday. The game will begin at 8:20 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The 49ers (11-4) have clinched a postseason berth of their own. They are also on a five-game win streak and in contention to win the NFC West.

Meanwhile, Williams and Co. are at the top of the NFC North. One more win will seal the divisional title for Chicago.
