With their Game 4 win, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Los Angeles Lakers. Winning this series doesn’t mean beating the Lakers but also avenging the playoff loss at the hands of Luka Doncic, who helped eliminate the team in 2024.
Because of that, it’s no surprise that Timberwolves fans aren’t too fond of Doncic. In fact, there was a viral video on X that showed one courtside fan getting into it with Doncic, and the Lakers star responded with a few expletives.
In a video posted by Jordan Dye, a fan can be heard yelling at Doncic, saying, “You a grown man. You complain on every play.” After Doncic inbounded the ball, he responded, saying, “Shut the (expletive) up!” As the fan chirped back at the Lakers star, Doncic then hit a long three-pointer, but the shot didn’t count as it was a shot-clock violation.
The real question will be whether this gets back to the league. The NBA hasn’t been happy when players chirp at fans, though fans have been banned for taking it too far when interacting with players. This could be swept under the rug, or it could lead to a fine down the line.
Doncic is commonly known as one of the NBA’s biggest complainers to referees. Part of what makes him so hard to stop is how easily he draws contact that is called for fouls. When he doesn’t get the call he wants, he tends to bicker with referees on the matter. He also tends to bicker when calls go against him.
The Lakers' star was amazing in Game 4, scoring 38 points in 46 minutes, but he also ran out of gas, hitting only one field goal in six attempts, which factored into the Timberwolves' having the upper hand.
