Vincent Trocheck's trade status updated as Maple Leafs are reported among many interested teams

The New York Rangers were shopping Vincent Trocheck before the NHL trade deadline in March.

They ended up holding him, though, and now it seems particularly likely that they'll trade him this offseason.

Who might be interested?

Well, Trocheck's multi-faceted game and recent Olympic gold medal with Team USA make him appealing to a lot of teams.

Earlier this offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs were rumored to be in the picture.

Whoever goes after Trocheck, it'll be costly. He's the No. 1 player on The Athletic's offseason trade big board put together by Chris Johnston.

"The veteran center spent most of the season at or near the top of our trade board and remains there now," Johnston writes. "After scratching Trocheck for roster management purposes prior to the trade deadline in March, the Rangers opted to hold on to him in anticipation of stronger offers in the summer. Those conversations have since resumed. Trocheck is an appealing target for teams looking to get stronger down the middle as a solid faceoff man and penalty killer who can handle heavy, difficult minutes. The fact that he’s an Olympic champion doesn’t hurt either."

Trocheck is under contract through the 2028-29 season, so any team acquiring him isn't just making a short-term investment but rather knows they'll have him around for at least a few seasons.

The Rangers are still working on commencing their rebuild, so it makes sense that they'll follow through and indeed complete a deal at some point.

Whether it's Toronto or any number of other suitors -- the Minnesota Wild were involved before the deadline -- remains to be seen.
