Pirates make interesting decision on Bubba Chandler after Jared Jones news

The Pittsburgh Pirates' pitching staff has been very good this season, with Paul Skenes, once again, pitching very well. But his 3.00 ERA isn't even the best mark of the staff.

Braxton Aschcraft has a 2.75 ERA, as he's been the most impressive pitcher for the Pirates this season. Mitch Keller has a 3.64 ERA, while Carmen Mlodzinski has a 3.74 ERA, and Bubba Chandler has a 4.85 ERA. So, what happens when a new arm is added?

According to Alex Stumpf of Book-Rule Bucs, with the Pirates adding Jared Jones back into the rotation, Pittsburgh is making a few interesting decisions on its starting rotation.

Pirates make interesting pitching decisions on three starters

"Don Kelly says Jared Jones will start for the Pirates Friday," Stumpf reports. "Carmen Mlodzinski will go to the bullpen."

This is a very interesting decision for the Pirates. Despite Chandler performing much worse than Mlodzinski this season, the Pirates are keeping the 23-year-old in the rotation for now and moving the 27-year-old to the bullpen.

While it might be an odd decision on the surface, it's not actually a bad idea. Chandler needs to develop into a good starter, and moving him to the bullpen wouldn't help his growth.

Jones is getting a spot in the rotation, and with Skenes, Keller, and Ashcraft going nowhere, there's only one spot left in the rotation for Mlodzinski and Chandler.

Don Kelly and the Pirates are opting to stick with Chandler in the rotation, moving Mlodzinski back into a long reliever role, one that he has experience with.

This will be a storyline worth following closely as the season progresses, as the Pirates might be making a few more changes to the rotation between Chandler and Mlodzinski from here on out.
