The initial free agency period and the 2026 NFL Draft are over, but the Minnesota Vikings aren't done making moves.
On Thursday night, the team made another move to strengthen the offense, signing veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings to a one-year pact. Jennings was one of the most reliable pass-catchers for the San Francisco 49ers over the last two seasons, but he'll now play elsewhere for the first time.
Now, the Vikings have an enviable wide receiver trio of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and Jennings. With this move, the writing could now be on the wall for one recent draft pick.
Jennings signing could be bad news for Tai Felton
In the 2025 NFL Draft, former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah selected receiver Tai Felton out of Maryland. Hopes were high for Felton, as he had good hands and quick feet in college, and the Vikings didn't have the best receiver depth.
Well, Felton failed to do much as a rookie. The Maryland product played in all 17 games, but managed just three catches for 25 yards and mostly saw the field on special teams. This is a bad sign for a third-round pick, especially when the receiver room, aside from the top, wasn't that special.
However, it seemed like a good sign for Felton that the Vikings didn't sign a receiver during the initial free agency period and also didn't draft one. So, until the Jennings signing, it seemed like Felton was going to be WR3.
It's safe to say that won't be happening now. Jennings is being paid handsomely to come in and catch passes for a year. This isn't the type of move you make if you're confident in what you have on the roster.
The hope was that Felton would breakout in 2026 and prove he was worthy of being a Day 2 pick. However, barring injury, it's hard to imagine him having a chance to do that.
Will Felton still have a role in Minnesota?
At this point, it seems like Felton's best shot at making an impact will again be on special teams. Felton returned seven kickoffs last year and also collected nine tackles, so he did make the most of his opportunities.
However, there's no guarantee Felton will be the primary returner either, as he'll have to beat out fellow receiver Myles Price. It also works against Felton that he's a product of the previous regime. Adofo-Mensah has face plenty of criticism for his draft misses, and Felton is desperately trying to prove he's not the latest one.
