The Minnesota Vikings are still riding high on their win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, 39-22, in the team's season opener. But, during the game, quarterback Kyler Murray left during the first quarter due to a concussion. Now, the Vikings have announced their final decision on whether he'll play.
According to ESPN and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Vikings have ruled out Murray and backup quarterback Carson Wentz will get the start.
During the Vikings' game against the Packers, Wentz completed 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. It was a solid showing and helped the team pull off a comeback victory.

So, what about J.J. McCarthy? It's expected that he'll be the backup to Wentz if, God forbid, something happens.
Hopefully Wentz will stay healthy through the run, because he certainly proved himself last weekend. After the game, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters that he's come to expect that kind of fantastic performance from Wentz.
"That's why he's here," O'Connell said. "For him to come in and do what he did and just be part of that calming presence that allowed our team to continue playing, I can't say enough about him."
According to ESPN, the start marks the 11th time during O'Connell's time with the Vikings that the team has changed starting quarterbacks during a season. Call it the musical chairs of quarterbacks for this franchise. "Most of those moves were necessitated by injuries, including those to Week 1 starters Kirk Cousins in 2023 and J.J. McCarthy in 2025," Kevin Seifert of ESPN notes.
So, Sunday will bring a fierce matchup between two NFC North rivals, and one won't have their starting quarterback but has a solid fill-in.
