If there was one thing the Minnesota Vikings had to do this offseason, it was get the quarterback position right.
According to ESPN's Seth Walder, the Vikings knocked it out of the park.
He ranked the best signings of the offseason in a new article on Thursday, and Walder put the Vikings in the very top spot on the list.
Why? Because they signed Kyler Murray for $1.3 million, a move he rightly graded as an 'A'.
Murray had been cut by the Arizona Cardinals, who are playing him a lot of money for 2026 despite Murray suiting up for a different team.
That set the Vikings up for an immense value opportunity.
"The Vikings pulled off an absolute coup at the game's most important position." Walder writes. "After J.J. McCarthy delivered only 10 games of subpar play last season with a 35.6 QBR (which would have ranked 27th had he played enough to qualify) after a rookie season lost to injury, the Vikings decided to bring in another quarterback. In all likelihood, they signed their 2026 starter. Because Murray had $36.8 million fully guaranteed from his contract with the Cardinals, the Vikings can sign him for only $1.3 million, with Arizona picking up the rest of the tab. And on paper, Minnesota just got a huge upgrade at quarterback for the veteran minimum."

Sure, the Murray move creates questions about McCarthy's future, but those questions already existed.
The reality is that the Vikings weren't good enough in 2025 because they struggled at quarterback despite an immensely talented roster. They simply couldn't let that happen again.
By landing Murray, they've potentially saved the day. Kyler will still have to deliver, butt he Vikings certainly couldn't have done better in these circumstances.
